British Artefacts Volume 1: Early Anglo-Saxon.

Brett Hammond

Paperback. 129 pp. Richly illustrated. Greenlight Publishing. 2009.

Designed primarily for metal-detectorists (and I'd imagine there may well be a few more of them out there following events in Staffordshire) this well-illustrated book outlines the main Anglo-Saxon find types from brooches and buckles to bracelets, pendants, pins, rings, weaponry and bridle mounts. There is also a brief section on non-metallic finds - ceramics, glass, antler and bone. The artefacts are clearly photographed in full colour and most at actual size. Find maps accompany the text to show distribution of the various artefacts. The book covers a date range of c.400-c.650.
