The Archaeology of Roman London Volume 3. CBA Report 88

 Williams, T.

Paperback. 109 pp. with 67 figs and 6 col plates. Museum of London 1993.

The third volume in the CBA's `Archaeology of Roman London' series reports on the 1981-86 excavations in the waterfront area of the south-west quarter of the City. Well-preserved chalk and timber pile foundations, together with massive masonry foundations indicated plans for a substantial building programme. This was begun in the spring of AD 294 in the reign of Allectus, but were possibly never fulfilled following his fall in AD 296. These works are interpreted as the last flourishing of the so-called `British Empire'.
