A detailed practical guide to all aspects of underwater archaeology. Each section is written by an expert in their particular field, and the book contains advice on legal issues, safety, surveying, recording and photographing finds, conservation, and publishing work.

When the first edition was published in 1992 underwater archaeology was a comparatively new science, and in the intervening years, as the editor notes, whilst the principles involved have remained broadly the same, there have been significant advances in terms of technology and techniques, all now fully covered in this second edition of what can now again be said to be the leading reference guide to underwater archaeology.
